| English and Literacy In Talking and Listening children will learn to express their own ideas and feelings. Children will learn how to use strategies to develop their reading skills and will be encouraged to see reading as enjoyable and exciting. |

| Numeracy Mathematical ideas will be developed in the areas of number, shape and space, measures and data handling. In each case the process, or the way in which children develop understanding of the mathematical concepts they are using, is of great importance. |

| Science and Technology Science and Technology is about finding out. Children will learn more about how things work and about the characteristics of the natural world, through investigation and discovery. |

| Environmental and Society Children learn about their own history and that of their family and their community in ways which are relevant to their own experience. Similarly the focus in geographical work will be on the people and places of local areas as well as those at a distance |

| Creative Expression Art, Music and Physical Education are valued highly and seen as integral parts of the curriculum, as each contributes to the development of every child. Children will be encouraged to participate in many individual and team sports, including some that reflect different cultural traditions. |
